This was the home of Colonel Fielding Lewis and his wife, Betty Washington Lewis, only sister of
George Washington. Built in the early 1770s, this Colonial home, furnished with period antiques, is an example of a Tidewater mid-Georgian manor house. The home is especially noted for the elaborate, decorative plasterwork on its ceilings and over its fireplaces. The house was used as a hospital during the Civil War years. The grounds include a Colonial kitchen and the Wilderness Walk. Open Monday-Friday 10am-5pm, Sunday noon-5pm, March-December; Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday noon-4pm, rest of the year.
