The tavern was built about 1760 for Charles Washington, brother of George Washington, as his home. George Washington was a frequent guest here. It later served as a stagecoach stop. Costumed tavern wenches give living-history tours and serve complimentary spiced tea. Night tours are available through the Fredericksburg Visitor Center. Call for hours of operation.
