Porches on the James is a modern home completed in August of 1998 designed specifically to be a bed and breakfast. It is located on a bluff 60 feet above the historic James River about five miles north of Smithfield, Virginia. The property includes a beach on the James which is available to guests, and guests arriving by boat can tie up at an adjacent dock with prior arrangement. The house is surrounded with porches fully equipped with rocking chairs, screens, shade, gentle breezes and a view of the five mile wide James River. All of Tidewater Virginia is less than an hour's drive; Williamsburg and Jamestown are across the river and easily accessible by free, scheduled ferry.
