Woodlawn Plantation |
The land, originally part of Mount Vernon, was a wedding present from George Washington to his foster daughter, Eleanor Park Custis and his nephew Major Lawrence Lewis. Dr. William Thornton, who designed the Georgian mansion, was the first architect of the Capitol.
