Hyde Park is the seat of
Lamoille County and is located between
Johnson and
Morrisville along Highway 15.
Chartered on August 27, 1781, Hyde Park was another grant to Revolutionary War veterans from Connecticut; it was named for its principal grantee, Capt. Jedediah Hyde, who saw action at Bunker Hill.
"The Great Fire of 1910" incinerated the lower half of Hyde Park village. It sparked in the jail and fanned quickly while many residents were at worship. Hyde Park did not have its own fire department, but nearby village departments swiftly came to its aid. Along with a bucket brigade, they helped to spare the upper village from the flames.
Described today as a sleepy village cozily tucked away in a quiet valley, the town has a resident population of 2,471. Two points of interest are the Hyde Park Opera House, and the Governor's House, built in 1893 for Carroll S. Page and his family.
