Senator Justin Morrill, author of the Morrill Land Grant College Acts of 1862, retired to his home town of Strafford in the 1840s. He then built a 17-room mansion in the popular Gothic Revival style. The charming home remains as it was when its builder designed it, surrounded by gardens, well-planned grounds, barns and outbuildings reflecting Morrill's far-reaching interests. The house is furnished with original Morrill family possessions.
