Cape Disappointment
|---|
First sighted by the Spaniard Bruno Heceta in 1775, Cape Disappointment is located at the mouth of the Columbia River. Its name reflects the difficulty that early explorers had in trying to locate the river's mouth. Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, completed in 1856, still stands guard over the mouth of the Columbia River, which had become known as "The Graveyard of the Pacific".
