Highway 20 starts in Anacortes and crosses the Washington's Cascade Mountains at Rainy Pass. It then crosses the northern tier counties of Eastern Washington, reaching the Idaho border near Newport. The portion of the highway running through the North Cascades National Park is called the North Cascades Highway and is closed at higher elevations in winter.
