Created in 1968, the North Cascades National Park contains a half million acres and offers visitors some of America's most beautiful scenery. In combination with adjoining preserves, it is part of a wilderness area of 1.5 million acres. There are no paved roads in the park itself, but Highway 20 follows the
Skagit River through
Ross Lake National Recreation Area, which divides the park into northern and southern parts.
