Governor Knowles State Park

Visit a scenic wilderness area along the St. Croix River in northwestern Wisconsin. The Governor Knowles State Forest is 55 miles long and up to two miles wide, and encompasses 32,500 acres. The park offers group and family camping, backpack camping, picnic areas, canoeing, hunting and fishing. There are 3 self guided nature trails, 38 hiking trails, 35 horse trails, 33 snowmobile trails and 9 cross-country ski trails. Located next to the park are Fish Lake Wildlife Area and Crex Meadow Wildlife Area. Hunters will find whitetail deer, ruffed grouse, black bear, snowshoe hare, squirrel and woodcock within the forest. Those wishing to view the local wildlife will also find a wide variety of birds and animals such as sharp-tailed grouse, common yellow throat, bald eagles, pocket gopher, mink and muskrat.
