The Outdoor Education Program offers four academic majors; Adventure Education, Therapeutic and Universal Design, Natural History, and Native American Studies. These courses of study expose students to the following aspects of the field of Outdoor Education: leadership and management issues, risk management, program design, educational philosophy, personal growth, communication, wilderness skills, block semester programs, and a senior level capstone experience.
The program advocates community and environmental justice and promotes a stewardship philosophy toward the land, water, and living systems on this planet. The diverse faculty has a commitment to academic excellence, interdisciplinary programs, and to the pedagogies of environmental education, experiential education, service learning, reflection, and oral tradition. Finally, the program integrates Outdoor Education with an environmental liberal arts curriculum.
