Founded as a village in the 1890's, Wautoma became a city in 1940 and is located in Waushara County (of which it is the county seat), between Oshkosh and Tomah along Hwy 21 on the banks of the White River near Coloma, Wild Rose, and Nordic Mountain Ski Resort. With many Christmas Tree growers in and around the city it is called the 'Christmas Tree Capital of the World'. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,926, an increase of 142 since 1990.
