Incorporated in 1885 within Tucker County (Eastern Region), Davis was born of the lumber boom. Today the area is a mecca to mountain bikers and rafters.
Ten miles south, Canaan Valley State Park is an all-year resort and conference center. Downhill and cross-country skiing are popular in winter; golf on an 18-hole championship course, hiking, tennis and swimming prevail during the summer.
Deer often cross the golf course early and late in the day. Other privately operated resorts and camping facilities are available in the Canaan Valley.
