Northlake, incorporated in 1949, is located in northeastern Illinois in Cook County. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 11,847, a decrease of 658 since 1990.
On the lighter side: An elephant named "Kay" was apparently startled by low-flying aircraft while the Keely and Miller Bros. Circus was nearby and had a brief rampage through the small town in the 1960s. No one was injured but flower beds and vegetable gardens ended up on the short end of the stick.
