Waterfalls, bluffs, and canyons dominate the landscape at Starved Rock State Park, one mile south of Utica and midway between the cities of La Salle-Peru and Ottawa in La Salle County. Legend tells of a band of Illiniwek Indians, under attack by rival Ottawa-Potawatomis, starving here in the 1760s atop a 125-foot sandstone bluff.
Lodging is available at the Starved Rock Lodge and Conference Center.
