Metamora

Metamora is in Lapeer County, and in the Southeast Region (is part of the Detroit, Michigan metropolitan area). You can locate this community by traveling south of Lapeer on State Hwy 24.

Becoming a station on the Detroit & Bay City Railroad in 1885, it was first settled by Eber Barrows who constructed an inn here in 1843.

Metamora, an indian name meaning among the hills. Also, the name of an Indian hero, son of Massosoit, a play popular on the east coast in the 1840s.

Metamora was incorporated as a village in 1885.
