The Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre recalls the experience of the coal mining town that Canmore was between 1886 and 1979. It explores a variety of other culturally and historically significant aspects of Canmore as well. Some of the displays are coal mine locomotives and cars, lamps, tools and rescue paraphernalia. A military collection of services rendered by the men and women of Canmore during World War I and World War II also can be seen.
Since 2006, the museum has had an agreement with the Town of Canmore to act as custodian of the town's heritage. The museum is a member of the Alberta Museums Association.
