Gates of the Arctic NP and Preserve

Search Bettles Alaska

North of Arctic Circle, this 8.5 million acre park and preserve is in the heart of the Brooks Range. It is a remote, austere area where the boreal forest meets the vast tundra. It is reached via the Dalton Hwy.

Gates of the Arctic includes a national park, national preserve, wilderness, six Wild Rivers, and two National Natural Landmarks. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is on the other side of the Dalton Hwy. Because of the fragile ecology, there are no campgrounds, trails or park facilities. For information, write to park headquarters in Bettles.
