Hope is located in Kenai Peninsula Borough at the northern end of the Kenai Peninsula, on the south shore of Turnagain Arm. The town was founded as a mining community in 1896 and has been damaged by earthquakes. Hope is now the best preserved gold rush community in southcentral Alaska, with many of the old mining buildings still standing. Hope also provides access to the Resurrection Creek area.
