The
Sterling Hwy (Alaska Rt 1) begins at the junction with
Seward Hwy 90 miles south of
Anchorage. It continues 142.5 miles west and south to the community of
Homer. The peninsula is bounded by Cook Inlet,
Kenai Fjords and
Prince William Sound.
The highway passes through the Chugach National Forest, the Kenai Fjords National Park and the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. The Kenai Mtns are home to Dall sheep, mountain goats, black and brown bears and caribou. The Kenai Fjords are the craggy coastline formed by retreating glaciers.
The rivers, lakes and streams are famous for their sportfishing and the highway also provides access to the Resurrection Pass Trail System. Call for Kenai Peninsula Travel Planner.
