Kasilof is located in
Kenai Peninsula Borough on the east shore of Cook Inlet on the
Kenai Peninsula. The town started as a Russian settlement named St George in 1786. A Native fishing village spread over the area now called Kasilof.
Fishing is the main industry. Beaches in the area are well-known for razor clams.
A hatchery located here helps produce a popular salmon fishery at the confluence of the Kasilof River and Crooked Creek. A partial archaeological excavation of the area in 1937 revealed over 30 well-preserved houses.
