In the Alabama Department of Archives and History; they explore the development of Alabama through American Indian and pioneer artifacts, military history displays including Civil War regimental flags, portrait galleries and a children's gallery. Included is an exhibit about 19th-century life containing the Official State Bible which Jefferson Davis took the oath of office with. A photograph display traces the Selma to Montgomery march and the voting-rights struggle of the 1960s. Museum open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Reference room is open Tuesday-Friday 8am-5pm, Saturday 9am-5pm. Closed major holidays. Free to the public.
