Montgomery is located in Montgomery County (Central Region) placing it as part of the Montgomery, Alabama metro area.


It is the State Capital as well as the county seat. The city lies southeast of Birmingham along Interstate 65, on the banks of the Alabama River.
Montgomery's area is 143 square miles. The annual average temperature is 65.7 degrees and the annual average rainfall is about 53 inches.
This city has giant shade trees along its streets and graceful old homes with spacious grounds and gardens.
There are several historical places to visit including the Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base is the site where Wilbur and Orville Wright operated the world s first flight training school in 1910. The State Capitol is among a few to be designated a National Historic Landmark. Jefferson Davis was sworn in there as President of the Confederate States. The Civil Rights Memorial chronicles key events and people in the movement.
