Talladega National Forest

The 389,000-acre Talladega National Forest is divided into two nearly equal sections; within the Oakmulgee Division is the 45,000-acre Oakmulgee Wildlife Management Area surrounding Payne Lake, for recreation information call 205-926-9765. The Talladega Division contains two wildlife management areas, Choccolocco and Hollin; the Pinhoti Trail System, a 102-mile hike that traverses the highest terrain in Alabama, between Piedmont and Sylacauga; and the 7,490-acre Cheaha Wilderness. The Talladega Scenic Drive runs through 23 miles of the forest, following the crest of Horseblock Mountain along Hwys 49 & 281.
