When Presbyterian minister Isaac J. Long came to Arkansas in 1866, his goal was to assess the needs of the state s Presbyterian congregations. Long and his congregation helped organize efforts that led to the chartering of Arkansas College (now Lyon College) on October 24, 1872. Lyon College is located in Batesville, Independence County, AR. Total enrollment is approximately 600 and there are 19 programs leading to bachelors degrees including 15 in the BA discipline, four in BS program with 24 Minors and five Concentrations to choose from. Athletic scholarships are given in basketball, baseball, track/cross country and other sports and student housing is available for 425.
