With a population of just under 2000, Lumby is located 25 km/16 mi east of
Vernon on Highway 6. Early settlers, mainly from Quebec, arrived in the area in the late 1800's. They created a local industry based primarily on agriculture and forestry and even today, these are the primary economic forces in the area.
