The Castle of Epioux was built in 1650, restored in 1730, and expanded with a tower in 1878. From 1862 to 1871 it was occupied by a notorious nephew of Emporer Napoleon Bonaparte, Pierre Napoleon Bonaparte, who moved away shortly after killing another man in what may or may not have been self-defense.
The castle is located adjacent to a gorgeous artificial pond, originally constructed to meet the needs of a steel and iron refinery nearby. These facilities were defunct by the 1850s and the buildings destroyed by a flood in 1888 caused by a ruptured dam.
