The collections of the Museum of Fine Arts of Charleroi concentrate on the era between the middle of the 19th century and the middle of the 20th century, and the schools of art that flourished during that period: neo-classicism, realism, social realism, impressionism,expressionism, surrealism, and abstraction. Some of the artists represented include Franois-Joseph Navez, Jean Portaels, Constantin Meunier, Pierre Paulus, Maximilien Luce, Paul Delvaux, Rene Magritte, Alphonse Darville, Gilberte Dumont, Jean Ransy, Alain Bornain, Jo Delahaut, and Marc Feulien.
The museum is housed on the second floor of Charlerois 1936 Art Deco Town Hall. (The Jules Destree Museum, dedicated to a Wallonian politician, is located on the third floor of the same building.)
