Rochefort

Search Rochefort

Rochefort is best known as a basecamp for hikers, bikers, canoeists, and explorers headed into the Ardennes forest region -- the Lomme National Park is right next door. There are many caves in this area of Belgium; in Rochefort itself, there is the Grotte de Lorette, where visitors pass through an intense sound and light show on their way into the depths. Rochefort Trappist Beer is manufactured at an abbey nearby. The Lorette Chapel and the ruins of the Chateau Comtal are also of interest.

Rochefort has a population of 12,000, and is located 40 kilometers southeast of the city of Namur. The Lesse River and the E411 roadway pass through from north to south.

Ave-et-Auffe, Buissonville, Eprave, Han-sur-Lesse, Jemelle, Lavaux-Sainte-Anne, Lessive, Mont-Gauthier, Villers-sur-Lesse, and Wavreille are boroughs within the municipal district of Rochefort.
