St. Bavos Cathedral

St. Baafskathedraal

Search Gent

St. Bavos is best known as the home for one of the most important masterpieces of painting ever executed, the Gent Altarpiece, by Jan Van Eyck and his brother Hubert. It is on display in a side chapel, fortified to protect the work, pieces of which have gone wandering more than once in its history.

St. Bavos is also home to a number of other important works of art, and is an edifice of considerable architectural interest in its own right.
