Founded in 1853 to survey and study the vast resources of California and beyond, the California Academy of Sciences is the oldest scientific institution in the West. Today, as one of the 10 largest natural history museums in the world, the Academy brings the message of research to nearly 1.5 million visitors each year. CAS is devoted to the study, display and interpretation of scientific collections which inspire people of all ages to explore the rich variety of life on Earth.

The three main public areas of the Academy are the Natural History Museum, the Steinhart Aquarium, and the Morrison Planetarium.

Children under 12 using alternative forms of transportation will be admitted free of charge. Admission is $8.50 Adults, $5.50 Youth (12-17), Students w/ID and Seniors (65 and over), $2.00 Children (4-11), Free Children 3 and under. Admission is free for all on the first Wednesday of each month. Members of the Academy are not charged for admission.

California Exposition & State Fair Sacramento CA June12-28 The Cal Expo is the site of the California State Fair. All year Satellite Wagering, Waterworld USA, Paradise Island Fun Center and an RV Park are just a few of the features of the Cal Expo.The first State Fair was held in 1854 in San Francisco at the old Music Hall. The fair offered premiums (prizes) for its competitions and included such agricultural exhibits such as 2-inch-long peanuts, 72-pound beets and a 10-pound carrot that was longer than 3 feet. Horseracing was part of that first fair and has continued to be a part of the fair ever since.
