The Chinese who came to California at the time of the Gold Rush worked as laborers on many important projects. The history of these 19th century immigrants is preserved in the Chinese Cultural Center, a dream of a group of Chinese businessmen. Constructed with private donations and aid from the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China, the center includes a Confucian temple and an exposition room housing cultural artifacts, paintings and rare architectural finds. From the graceful sweep of the roof to the magnificent jade lions guarding the entrance, every detail is true to Chinese heritage.
