The Discovery Museum of Sacramento is a family-focused educational institution dedicated to enriching the lives of local residents and visitors to the Sacramento region by encouraging the exploration of history, science and space. The museum offers five themed areas that comprise the museum. They offer exhibits relating to history, science and technology. Original artifacts and hands-on, interactive exhibits are featured. Displays include a million-dollar Mother Lode gold collection. The Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The Museum is closed Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

All year Satellite Wagering, Waterworld USA, Paradise Island Fun Center and an RV Park are just a few of the features of the Cal Expo.The first State Fair was held in 1854 in San Francisco at the old Music Hall. The fair offered premiums (prizes) for its competitions and included such agricultural exhibits such as 2-inch-long peanuts, 72-pound beets and a 10-pound carrot that was longer than 3 feet.
