The City of Jackson is located in the heart of Californias historic Mother Lode, 45 miles east of Sacramento and Stockton. Jackson began as a gold mining camp in 1848. Jackson is known for its rich gold rush history and beautiful Victorian era neighborhoods. Jackson offers beautiful subdivisions and convenient shopping centers. Jackson has many local restaurants that offer fine ethnic dining, and several local wineries are just a short drive away. Jackson is also home to the only movie theater complex in Amador. Jackson is located in Amador, of which it is the county seat, southeast of Sacramento between Placerville and Angels Camp along Highway 49 near the Pardee and Camanche reservoirs. There is also a Jackson, Wyoming.

California Exposition & State Fair Sacramento CA June12-28 The Cal Expo is the site of the California State Fair. All year Satellite Wagering, Waterworld USA, Paradise Island Fun Center and an RV Park are just a few of the features of the Cal Expo.The first State Fair was held in 1854 in San Francisco at the old Music Hall. The fair offered premiums (prizes) for its competitions and included such agricultural exhibits such as 2-inch-long peanuts, 72-pound beets and a 10-pound carrot that was longer than 3 feet. Horseracing was part of that first fair and has continued to be a part of the fair ever since.
