Prairie City State Vehicular Recreation Area, set at the base of the Sierra Nevada has 836 acres of rolling hills. The park has flat, open grasslands, native blue oaks, and cobbled mine tailings. There are also shaded picnic sites with barbecues and water. The area has motorcycle, all-terrain and four-wheel drive open areas. The Hangtown MX track is professionally designed and maintained as weather permits. There is also a 1/4 Midget track; go-cart track; clay oval track; as well as mud drags and a four-wheel drive obstacle course. Call the park for special event information. No camping available. Located 20 miles east of Sacramento, the park is open weekends and Monday from 8 a.m. to sunset. Entrance fee is $4.
