Shelton along US Highway 8 on the banks of the Housatonic River near Indian Well State Park. Osborne-Dale State Park is also nearby.
Derby is at the junction of the Housatonic and Naugatuck Rivers. Community was named for Derby, England.
Derby was settled in 1642 as a trading post.
