Located near the Mark Twain House, the restored house contains assorted items belonging to the renowned author of "Uncle Tom's Cabin". Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) is best known today as the author of Uncle Tom's Cabin, which helped galvanize the abolitionist cause and contributed to the outbreak of the Civil War. Stowe became an internationally acclaimed celebrity and an extremely popular author. Her writing career spanned 51 years, during which she published 30 books and countless shorter pieces. In her spare time, she raised seven children and managed a household. Her husband, Calvin, encouraged his wife in her endeavors.
