This 116-acre summer estate on Long Island Sound belonged to the late Edward S. Harkness family. In order to provide recreational opportunities for Connecticut's citizens with disabilities, Mary Stillman Harkness bequeathed the estate to the State of Connecticut. The 42-room mansion and formal gardens were reopened in 1998 after a $3.5 million restoration. The mansion is open for tours during the summer months and is available for rental from March 1 to December 23.
