Founded in 1976 on 47 acres overlooking the Lieutenant River, the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts lies in close proximity to Long Island Sound, two hours from New York City or Boston. The academy is housed in the 1817 Sill House, a restored Federal-style mansion. Two galleries feature the work of local artists and academy students. Exhibits change every 6-8 weeks. An attached building houses studios and an art supply shop. The Lyme Academy is the only independent Fine Arts College in New England, exclusively dedicated to traditional art disciplines.
