The Slater Memorial Museum was dedicated by William Slater to the memory of his father, John Fox Slater, a prominent 19th century philanthropist who established the Norwich Free Academy with a $1 million donation.
Located off Hwy 2, the gallery houses Greek, Roman and Renaissance plaster cast collections; American art and furniture from the 17th through the 20th centuries, American Indian artifacts; and African, European, Oriental and American art.
A separate section houses six galleries with rotating exhibits.
