Founded in 1831, this very competitive school is an independent liberal arts institution. Graduate programs offer masters and doctorates. The 290-acre campus, including the 170-acre Long Lane addition, is in a suburban area 15 miles south of Hartford. A 9 to 1 student-faculty ratio serves a total enrollment of approximately 3,000.
Fraternities, sororities, and over 150 clubs and organizations are on campus. Tours are available. Woodrow Wilson taught economics and history at Wesleyan before moving to Princeton University.
