Bekonscot Model Village

Search Beaconsfield

The model village and railway began as a hobby for Roland Callingham, a London Accountant, who in the mid-1920s bought a field, dug a pond in it and built a few houses, to which a friend added a model railway. The model railway reaches throughout the village with a total track length of 438 yards. Trains are operated electrically; 7 stations are served by the trains, which are controlled and supervised in the same way as a full-size railway. All the track is fixed to a substantial cast-cement base; rolling stock comprises mainly steam outline locos and a variety of passenger and goods vehicles. Some of the locos date back many years but have been fitted with new running gear, the remainder are recent constructions built on-site. During the season, the trains cover about 16,000 miles; trains run continually throughout opening season, 7 days a week. Tel: +44 (0) 1494 672919 Fax: +44 (0) 1494 675284
