Cathedral Church of St Philip

Search Birmingham

One of the country's most notable 18th-century church buildings, this is a rare example of 'English Baroque' style architecture. Designed and built between 1709 and 1715 by Thomas Archer; visitors should note the Italianate domed tower, the huge clear windows and subtle ornamentation of internal features. Also see Sir Edward Burne-Jones's four great Pre-Raphaelite stained-glass windows (worked in conjunction with William Morris). Other features include the 18th-century Schwarbrick organ, subsequently rebuilt and extended. Conference facilities, gift shop on site. Open January-December.
