One of the largest state parks in northwestern Florida, the 698-acre Big Lagoon includes wetlands, salt marshes and sandy beaches, offering numerous recreational opportunities and great wildlife viewing. Visitors enjoy full-facility camping, canoeing, swimming, fishing, picnicking, and hiking along the park's beaches, shallow bays, and boardwalks. A double boat dock with ramp makes the area popular for water recreation. An observation tower at the East Beach area provides a panoramic view of the lagoon, the park, and Gulf Islands National Seashore, just across the Intercoastal Waterway.
Exhibits are located throughout the park along with nature trails with guided walks. Campfire programs and recreational skill programs are offered seasonally and on request for groups. The Governor's Pavillion and a 500-seat amphitheater with separate meeting room & equipped kitchen can be reserved (for a fee) to accomodate larger groups of picnickers and group meetings.
