City Map with Features
This state park preserves one of the largest remaining stands of Southern Live Oak forest along Florida's east coast and contains 3,230 acres of upland forest, hardwood swamp, saltmarsh and tidal creeks. Many historic plantation ruins, mostly hidden in the forest undergrowth, can be found and are protected as state archaeological sites. Several trails are available for exploring the park's interior, ranging from short loops around groundwater springs to half-day and longer hikes through the Bulow Plantation Ruins State Historic Site; a primitive campsite is available to backpackers with an overnight permit. The bridge at Bulow Creek provides a popular fishing spot; visitors can walk from here to the Boardman Pond Observation Platform, overlooking a natural tidal pond. A scenic roadway loop connects the Fairchild Oak visitor area to the Intracoastal Waterway and the ocean highway.
