A model of Gothic elegance, the cathedral, completed in 1560, took more than three centuries to build. The 13th-century stained-glass windows in the chancel and transept represent some of France's finest examples from this period. The Romanesque crypt features 11th- to 13th-century frescoes, including an impressive work depicting Christ on horseback. The tower offers a magnificent view of old Auxerre and the busy Yonne river valley.
