Capt. Dan McSweeney is a marine mammal expert and active whale researcher who has lived in Kona since 1969. Dan has devoted over 25 years and 50,000 hours studying the migratory humpback whales both in Hawaii, where they winter, and Alaska where t hey summer. Also, for decades, he has researched the resident pilot whales and other exotic whale species that frequent the Kona/Kohala Coast throughout the year. Dan has been conducting whale watching adventures in Kona since the mid 1970's, introducing tens of thousands of visitors and residents to the fascinating world of wild whales.
