Kona Community Hospital (KCH), the primary health care facility serving West Hawaii, is a 94-bed full service medical center; 33 beds Medical Surgical acute; 30 beds Skilled Nursing/Long Term Care; 7 beds Obstetrics; 11 beds behavioral health unit; and, a 9 bed intensive care unit. It is located in
Kealakekua, Kona, 18 miles south of Kona International Airport. The hospital has expanded considerably from its initial wooden structure with 52 beds built in 1941. It is currently housed in a three-story structure constructed in 1975.
