Amana is located in Iowa County in the East Central Region of Iowa, northwest of Iowa City along US Highway 151 near the Iowa River and Lake Macbride State Park. The name derives from the Song of Solomon, meaning "remain faithful". The city was settled by German families seeking religious freedom. Nearby parks and recreation include Kolonieweg Recreational Trail, Amana Colonies Nature Trail, and Lily Lake. Historic sites and museums include Museum of Amana History, Community Church Museum, Communal Agriculture Museum, Mini-Americana Barn Museum, and Industrial Machine Shop Museum.
