Centrally located in Southeastern Idaho, Blackfoot is at the confluence of the
Blackfoot River and
Snake River and is considered to be as old as the American westward movement. The first reference to what is today Blackfoot is found in 1818 journals of the
Hudson's Bay Company.
Today, Blackfoot's economy is based on agriculture and primarily on the famous Idaho potato, which has resulted in its gaining the title of "Potato Capital of the World."
The county seat of Bingham County, it lies on Interstate 15 and US 26 north of Pocatello.
